Malagufuk Birding Overview

Malagufuk is a charming, hidden gem nestled within the lush Klasow Valley of Sorong Regency, located in the pristine Southwest Papua Province. This enchanting jungle village is situated deep within the dense lowland tropical forest, where vibrant flora and the sounds of nature create a serene atmosphere. Accessible yet remote, Malagufuk is only a two-hour drive from the bustling city of Sorong, followed by an invigorating 3.5-hour trek through the verdant landscape to reach the village.

The tight-knit community of Malagufuk has embraced ecotourism, establishing cozy accommodations that invite visitors to immerse themselves in the breathtaking surroundings. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the perfect opportunities to explore the rich biodiversity of the forest, making each step a new adventure.

Malagufuk Birding 4D3N

Day 1: Sorong to Malagufuk
You will drive from Sorong to Malagufuk, which takes about two hours. After reaching the entry gate for Malagufuk Village, we will walk on a wooden bridge for about 3.5 hours to reach the eco-village.

Day 2: Bird Photo Trip or Birdwatching Trip in Malagufuk
We will have breakfast at 4 am and start walking at 5 am to see the Twelve-Wired Bird of Paradise. This walk will take about 1.5 hours. After that, we will continue for another 30 minutes to look for the lesser bird of paradise and the red-breasted paradise kingfisher.

Day 3: Bird Photo Trip or Birdwatching Trip in Malagufuk
Breakfast will be at 5 am again. We will then walk to see the magnificent Riflebird and the Blue Black Kingfisher, and then to the King Bird of Paradise, Common Paradise Kingfisher, and Papua Pitta.

Day 4: Morning Bird Photo Trip or Birdwatching Trip and Transfer
We will do some birdwatching in the morning. At 1 pm, we will transfer back to Sorong. Trip ends.
